Mentally Prepared—Academically Successful
This is a picture of Maslow's Learning TriangleThe triangle to the left is Maslow’s hierarchy. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five tier model of human needs, often depict-ed as hierarchical levels within a pyramid. All educators have been exposed to this model at some point if not mul-tiple points in their career. In order to rise to the top tier to your fullest potential you must solidify each of the tiers before it. The very first two tiers are called Physiological needs. Simply defined as your basic needs of food, water, warmth, rest, security. In Tiers three and four the psycho-logical needs are met. Simply defined as a healthy growth and sustainment of your emotional and mental abilities. If this is compromised how will your student learn?
At KES we have invested hours of networking to refine our relationship with three mental health com-panies. We have secured a relationship with the Village Network who will be here every day except Wednesdays serving all students. There is both a male and female counselor that is ready to help your child become mentally prepared. Our second connection is with the Coleman Center. They are current-ly here every Wednesday. They also offer an alternative school if your child is not experiencing success at KES. Our third connection is an extension of the Coleman Center and is working with our Preschool and Kindergarten stakeholders exclusively. She is here in the morning of Monday and Thursday. We are currently trying to build a solid rapport with Change Inc. an agency out of West Virginia with simi-lar services. We are doing everything in our power to help support our students’ needs. I have often asked, “How can you succeed academically – if you are mentally suffering?” If you think your child might need a counselor please contact the school.
