Preschool Registration

Preschool registration will be held this year on May 8th in the upstairs commons at Karaffa Elementary from 10:00-6:00. The top West entrance doors will be open for easy access to the parents coming in. We will have a sign outside to help guide the way.  It will also be held at Whispering Hills (Community Room) from 11:30-1:00.

The COAD Foster Grandparent program has a new partner in Toronto City Schools – starting at Karaffa Elementary and we are in need of volunteers!

If you are 55 years of age or older and meet our program income guideline, you can join the COAD Foster Grandparent family of volunteers and earn a stipend for your time.  This stipend is non-taxable time reimbursement and is not considered income for any other social benefit you may have.

School Based Health Center Opening

Toronto City School District has a a school-based health center (SBHC) at Toronto Jr.-Sr. High School operated by CHANGE, Inc. The SBHC opened at the start of the 2018-2019 school year. This is the first SBHC east of Columbus and south of Cleveland in Ohio.

Cindy Hritz was the recipient of the first-ever Alumni Non-Teaching Service Award. Mrs. Christine Hargrave presented the award to Mrs. Hritz at the Toronto High School Awards Assembly.

Joseph and Anna Marie Karaffa Award for Excellence in Education

Michelle Blazek is the 2018 recipient of the Joseph and Anna Marie Karaffa Award for Excellence in Education. Ms. Blazek was hired in Toronto in the summer of 2014 to replace longtime science teacher Barbara Pritts. She currently teaches Biology and Anatomy and serves as the advisor for the National Honors Society and the National BETA Club at Toronto Jr.-Sr. High School. Michelle worked for the American Red Cross but changed careers when she discovered her love of teaching while working at the Greater Cleveland YMCA. From 2008-2014, Michelle taught for the Mt. Anthony Union High School in Bennington, Vermont.
